Happy Friday! I want to share another site with you in honor of President’s Day. Discover George Washington provides an interactive timeline of George Washington’s life. The timeline includes videos, images, and even battle maps! You can narrow down the timeline events by choosing a category from the drop down menu (e.g. family life, slave owner). This is a really cool way to learn about George Washington! Enjoy!

Hope you had a wonderful Labor Day holiday! I know I did! Check out the American Symbols game from the Texas Law-Related Education site. Simply match the symbol to the correct description. The site offers many other history games as well, such as Pirates of the Preamble and Declaration Clarification.

Check out this cool interactive called Abraham Lincoln’s Crossroads. Go on a journey with Abraham Lincoln and help him make decisions regarding political happenings. It is narrated and works great on the SMART Board as a whole-class activity. Here are more details from the site:

Mapping Our World is an interactive resource from Oxfam.org.uk specifically made for Whiteboards that explores the relationship between maps and globes. There are 3 different lessons with a total of 9 different activities, and each focuses on different skills related to maps, globes, and geography (read here for more specific curriculum information). Review questions for each activity can be found by clicking “Plenary” at the bottom of each activity. Below is the “What on Earth?” interactive from Lesson 1 that lets students look at Earth from an alien’s point of view. Students must then log all the features that can be seen from different distances and angles. What a fantastic resource!

SheppardSoftware.com is a site for elementary-aged children that offers interactive games, quizzes, and movies on a variety of topics that include math, vocabulary, government, dinosaurs, life cycles, habitats, food chains, and more.
