Today is the 100th day of school in Mobile County! Only 80 more days of school remain. Here are a fun activity from ABCya.com to do on the SMART Board today. The owl needs help finding his friends. He’ll tell which number his friend is at, and you have to click on it. Also check out my past posts on 100th day activities.

More or Less is a great game found at MathGameTime.com. There are 4 groups of objects, each with different types and amounts. Follow the instructions and choose either the most populated or least populated group. Click the settings cog at the bottom right corner and make it full screen for the SMART Board. There are tons of other games on the site, as well as math videos and worksheets for Pre-K through 7th grade. Enjoy!

Our school recently won a fire safety contest in our district put on by Mobile Fire-Rescue and Firehouse Subs. We had the most parents sign and return a form stating they tested their smoke detectors at home. Each student received a free kids meal from Firehouse Subs and our school was presented with a plaque! On that note, Sparky.org is a wonderful site with lots of useful information regarding fire safety for children. There are coloring pages, a section all about fire trucks, and of course, a variety of interactive games! Below is a match game. Not only is it a match game, but during the game, the fire alarms sounds and you have to click on the door to get outside the house in order to earn a printable badge. I found this nice estimation activity on Transum.org. Students are asked to estimate the number of sheep in the field, then enter the number. I normally look for activities that require little use of the keyboard, but the teacher could sit at the computer and enter the students’ answers, or the onscreen keyboard is always an option. Once you click next, it will tell you the exact amount of sheep in the field, and also give you some other stats including error percentage. There are many interactive math activities on the site, so please  check them out as well!

Super Science World is an awesome website with tons of Science activities on a variety of topics ranging from cells to atoms to circuits. All of the activities are free and have a number of levels for each game. Choose a character and answer the questions to try and beat your opponent and earn a star! Also check out Super Maths World for some of the free sample activities available.

What a fabulous site to learn about butterflies! There are several quiz activities, a field observation activity where you identify the parts of a butterfly, and a section where you can also build your own butterfly habitat! This would be a great extension to a lesson on butterfly life cycles. Enjoy!

Everyone loves a good wordsearch puzzle and CapstoneKids.com offers a slew of them! Topics include volcanoes, electricity, folk tales, and much more. These puzzles work great on the SMART Board. Just drag your finger over the letters to highlight the word. Have fun!

Draw a Stickman is an interactive shared by @dannynic on Twitter yesterday. Simply follow the prompts and watch your stickman come to life! This activity will be a hit in your classroom! My 4th graders loved it. What a hoot!

Hello readers! I’m sorry I’ve left you for so long. Things are starting to calm down a little in our second month of school, so get ready for more Goodies! Let’s start with Estimate and Measure with Chef Pierre from Compass Learning Odyssey. This is a great activity for K-1. Estimate how many cinnamon rolls each pan will hold, then measure to see if you are correct!

It’s back to school for Mobile County Public Schools on Monday! Don’t forget to have a little fun on your SMART Board with the singing horses that I posted about in 2009.

Here are the famous singing horses. What a great activity to get students used to touching the SMART Board! This would also work if you are discussing Cause and Effect or just to have some fun on a Friday afternoon.
